Wisconsin Election Integrity Poll Results

The News: A poll commissioned by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) finds strong bipartisan support for a series of election reforms that would provide new safeguards and ensure uniform practices across the state. The poll of 1,000 Wisconsin registered voters was conducted by Scott Rasmussen from August 22-28, 2021. The sample consisted of approximately equal numbers of Biden and Trump voters.

The Quote: WILL Research Director, Will Flanders, said, “These results indicate that secure elections and uniform election practices are not a partisan issue. Every Wisconsinite deserves the same access and confidence in our elections.”

Diving Deeper: The survey was conducted using a mixed mode approach from August 22-28, 2021. Most respondents were contacted online or via text while 225 were contacted using automated phone polling techniques. The margin of error is 3.1%. The survey found strong support among Wisconsin voters for election reform proposals and current safeguards.Wisconsin Election Integrity Poll Results:

  • 87% of voters favor a requirement for every election clerk to use the same standards for correcting errors on absentee ballots – a practice known as ballot curing

  • 84% of Wisconsin voters support the current law requiring everyone to show photo ID before casting a ballot.

    • 96% GOP voters, 70% Dem voters, and 81% Ind voters support.

    • Supported by strong majorities of every education level

  • 76% favor making in-person absentee voting hours the same everywhere across the state.

  • 69% of voters favor a uniform statewide requirement for people voting by mail to provide a copy of a photo ID with their ballot. Governor Evers recently vetoed a bill that would require those who claim to be indefinitely confined from submitting a photo ID.

    • 86% GOP voters, 52% Dem voters, and 65% Ind voters support.

    • Supported by strong majorities of every education level.

  • 65% of voters favor a ban on the practice known as ballot harvesting – a measure recently vetoed by Governor Evers.

    • 79% GOP voters, 53% Dem voters, and 58% Ind voters support.

    • Supported by strong majorities of every education level.

  • 64% of voters agree District Attorneys should be able to investigate allegations of fraud in other counties and prosecute when appropriate.

  • 54% believe election officials should be required to begin counting absentee ballots when they are received rather than waiting until Election Day.

This poll featured other questions about political figures, the 2022 mid-terms, and recent news events.

  • 47% of Wisconsin voters approve of the way that President Biden is performing his job while 51% disapprove.

  • Governor Tony Evers earns approval from 48% while 47% disapprove.
